Back in the late seventies to early eighties, Swiss watchmakers faced a crisis: the advent of Asian manufactured Japan quartz movement threatened the mechanical watch industry. As people marveled at this new technology and shifted to wearing automatic quartz, one man decided to swim against the tide. Raymond Weil has always believed in independence, that quality is never compromised by market forces, and decided to launch the Raymond Weil Swiss luxury watch right in the middle of this storm. Instead of adapting the cheaper, more popular but less quality quartz technology at that time, Raymond decided to stick to the excellent Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship he learned in the twenties as a watchmaker himself. Precision movement and quality of material were never compromised; in fact, Raymond Weil watches had unofficially became a rallying morale booster for Swiss technology against the tide of Japanese ingenuity during the crisis. Today Raymond Weil watches represent the same independent quality craftsmanship, a brand that has been tested by time, indeed.
